Our Story...

Established in 2015 with just an umbrella and 4 surfboards on Sayulita's main beach, we've grown with passion and dedication.

Today, not only have we traded that umbrella for a tent and opened our very own store, but we've maintained our commitment to offering unique experiences.

We provide tailored lessons for both beginners and intermediate surfers here in Sayulita.

And if you're looking to escape the bustling Sayulita crowds, we offer lessons and surf trips to one of the laid-back breaks of Punta de Mita.

But Marea's offerings go beyond just surfing: from board rentals to sunset bonfires, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and adventures to waterfalls and thermal waters. At Marea, it's not just about catching waves; we're genuinely curious about your story and are passionate about building a connection that goes beyond the surfboard.

Miguel

Born and raised in Acapulco, Miguel has called Sayulita home for over 10 years.

With decades of experience of teaching all levels and all ages, Miguel is your guy if you’re focused on taking your surfing to the next level.

There’s no splashing around with Miguel, he’s a straight talker and will keep you catching wave after wave!!

Lara

While travelling the world, Lara lost her heart to Sayulita a number of years ago and has been calling this corner of the world home ever since.

A newbie to surfing when she first arrived, Lara now likes nothing more than escaping her mom duties on the waves. The rest of the time she's the member of the team at the front of the shop keeping all the boys in order!

Max

Max traded the bustling city for a life on the beach. He is your guide to the hottest spots in town. Whether it's nightlife or surf spots, he knows all the gems!

Maxi brings both passion and years of expertise to his surf lessons. With his endless patience and step-by-step guidance, Maxi ensures a fun yet secure learning atmosphere in the water.

Trust him to make your surfing experience enjoyable and educational!

Esteban

Originally from Mazatlan, Esteban moved to Sayulita 3 years ago to be closer to the surf.

He has over 20+ years of experience in surfing and 8 years teaching experience. He loves to meet new people and introduce them to the sport that he loves the most.

Oh, and dinged your board? No worries. Esteban has over 10 years experience in surfboard repair and will fix your board in no-time!

Estrella

When Max adopted Estrella, she was still a puppy. She has grown very fast from a playful young dog, to a true teenager that comes home at 3 am and sleeps in.

During the day you can find her in the shop, ready to play, get cuddles and treats. She's always in for a good adventure and joins us very often on the surf trips.

But what Estrella absolutely loves the most is being on the beach to watch her human Max surfing (Ok, and eating trash and digging holes in the shop).

SURF INSTRUCTOR WANTED

Job Description:

We are currently looking for a passionate and experienced surf instructor with a strong work ethic to join our team. The ideal candidate has knowledge about surfing techniques, safety procedures, and has excellent communication skills to teach and guide our students. Basic Spanish is preferred.

Start: asap until: September

Responsibilities:

Teach surf lessons to all kinds of people with a variation in skill levels, from beginner to advanced surfers.
Give a comprehensive instruction on surfing, ocean safety, wave selection, and etiquette.
Recognize surfing levels and customize the lesson to help them achieve their surfing goals.
Keeping a close eye on the ocean conditions, the weather, and making sure everyone's playing it safe out there.
Demonstrate the proper surfing techniques and maneuvers and offer constructive feedback to students during lessons.
Creating a positive and supportive vibe where everyone feels supported and ready to tackle those waves with confidence.
Taking care of equipment, doing maintenance and rental operations as needed.
Represent Marea Surf School in a professional and friendly way, promoting our services and values to customers.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a surf instructor. Good surfing skills with understanding of wave dynamics, surfboard design and ocean conditions.
Lifeguard or surf instructor certification is a big plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and connect with different kinds of people.
Looking after the wellbeing of students. The ability to stay calm and stable during emergency situations.
Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate fluctuating lesson demand
Passion for surfing and a desire to share this excitement and joy of the sport with others.
Basic level in Spanish to communicate with local staff and customers has the preference.
