How we do things
Marea started with a simple idea…
Four boards, an umbrella on the beach, and a love for sharing waves. Surfing has brought us so many friends, and many of our guests come back every year. More than a decade later, nothing important has changed: still a small crew, with the same warm welcome and the same excitement every time you stand up.

Local, not a franchise
There’s no head office behind Marea. No franchise or support team. Just a small crew showing up every single day, because Sayulita is where we want to be and surfing is what we love.

Small groups, real coaching
Max 4 surfers per instructor. We watch every wave, give honest feedback and teach you to catch your own waves. Then we celebrate them like they’re ours, whether it’s your first pop-up or your tenth.

La Lancha, our secret weapon
Nobody gets there like we do. Our vintage open-top trucks are still going strong, with boards stacked high and the music on, through lush green jungle roads. But what guests remember most is the surf session we share once we’re there.

Surfing in Sayulita, Nayarit.
Sayulita is a small surf town on the Riviera Nayarit coast, about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta airport. Warm water, waves all year and a beach break that’s kind to beginners.
We’ve been teaching surf lessons here for 10+ years, so we know which spot works on which day. All equipment included: board and rash guard on every lesson.
Sayulita Beach · sandy break
BeginnersSoft, rolling whitewater over sand, right in front of town. This is where most first-timers catch their first waves.

Intermediate & advancedA left and a right over a rocky bottom. Faster, steeper waves for surfers who can already turn.

Yes. The sandy beach break has gentle whitewater, and your instructor picks the right part of the beach for your level. Max 4 surfers per instructor.

A 90-minute lesson with an experienced local instructor, a surfboard and a rash guard. Max 4 surfers per instructor. Just bring sunscreen, a towel, water and a smile.

Yes, kids are welcome from age 5, as long as they can swim.

Our 3 and 5-day lesson packages are our version of a surf camp: a lesson every day, in Sayulita, at La Lancha or both. You choose where to stay.

A quiet jungle beach on the Punta de Mita coast, about 25 minutes from Sayulita. Join a lesson or the surf trip, and we take you there.

A La Lancha lesson is for anyone who can’t surf on their own yet: you get full coaching in the water. The La Lancha surf trip is for surfers who can already catch waves independently and want transport, a board and local guidance. Both include the open-top truck ride from Sayulita.
