What Travelers Need to Know Right Now
Over the weekend, a major security operation took place in parts of the neighboring state of Jalisco. As images and videos circulated online, many people understandably felt concerned.
As local business owners who live and work in Sayulita daily, we’re sharing what we are seeing firsthand.
Is Sayulita Safe Right Now?
Yes. Sayulita remains calm and unaffected by the recent events in Jalisco. There were no incidents in town. Today, life here looks exactly like it usually does: locals and visitors are enjoying the beach, restaurants and shops are open, surf lessons are running as scheduled, families are walking through town, people are arriving and the sunset views are as beautiful as ever.
The vibe in town feels relaxed and steady, like always.

Transportation & Travel
Flights are arriving normally at Puerto Vallarta Airport, and transportation between Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita is operating as usual. Visitors are traveling to Sayulita and the Riviera Nayarit region without issues, and businesses throughout the area remain open.
As with any fast-moving situation, there were temporary disruptions during the security operation — but those have passed.

Why the Jalisco Events Looked More Severe Online Than They Were
After the security operation in Jalisco, social media quickly filled with videos, images, and dramatic headlines. If you were watching from afar, it probably looked overwhelming.
However, as reported by The Washington Post, a significant amount of misleading content circulated in the hours and days following the events — including AI-generated images and videos shared without clear context. Some posts suggested widespread chaos in areas that were not directly affected.
When content spreads that quickly, it can blur the line between what is happening in a specific location and what is simply going viral.
From here on the ground, the reality felt very different from what some online posts suggested.
That’s why we always encourage checking trusted reporting and verified local updates rather than relying solely on social media. Fast-moving situations often look much bigger online than they feel in real life.

The Reality on the Ground
What stands out most right now is normalcy.
The ocean hasn’t changed.The town hasn’t changed.The incredibly warm people haven’t changed.
Sayulita remains the warm, welcoming, resilient community it has always been.
We deeply understand that seeing dramatic headlines can create worry — especially if you have upcoming travel plans. Please know that if anything were different, we would communicate openly and honestly.
At this moment, everything feels calm and peaceful.
